William E. Smith, Jr., M.D.
Dr. Smith graduated from Auburn University and the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed his internship and residency at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. A board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Smith also is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Southern Medical Association, Florida Orthopaedic Society and the Escambia County Medical Society.
Dr. Smith specializes in spine surgery, injective spine care, joint replacement, sports medicine and arthroscopy. He served as Orthopaedic Service Chief at Baptist Hospital from 1989 until 1991 and for a second time from 1998 until 2003 and is a recognized leader in the Johnson & Johnson Depuy Total Knee and Hip Replacement systems, microscopic spine surgery and Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedures.
In 2008 Dr. Smith received national recognition by achieving a 99% patient satisfaction ranking from national survey firm Press Ganey Associates, for the second year in a row. This designation places Dr. Smith in the top 1% of physicians for patient satisfaction as compared to physicians from more than 7000 U.S. health care facilities.
